FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 6, 2012 -- South Africa's Thomas Aiken opened with a nine-under-par 64 on Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Africa Open.
Aiken leads his compatriots Retief Goosen, who hit the first shot of the 2012 European Tour season, and Jaco Ahlers by one stroke at East London Nike - VR Pro Blade Irons Club.
South Africans Michael Du Toit, Dean O'Riley and Welshman Philip Price are tied for fourth a further shot back on seven under after rounds of 66.

Aiken, a 28-year-old who captured his maiden European tour title at last year's Open de Espa and also racked up a further nine top-10 finishes, got his 2012 campaign off to the best possible start as he posted a bogey-free round that featured five birdies and two eagles.
Aiken and Goosen were playing with Nike - VR Pro Blade Irons in the same group today and though the latter started with a bogey at the ninth, he soon caught fire, reeling off five birdies in a row from the 11th - a hole that Aiken eagled.
Aiken, meanwhile, finished his front nine with three birdies, beofer Goosen hit back with a birdie at the first.
They continued to exchange blows, with Aiken producing a stunning approach at the par-five third for an eagle and Goosen following him in for another birdie.

Aiken also birdied the fifth and then had another tap-in birdie after a superb bunker shot at the sixth. Goosen also birdied the sixth to leave the duo on nine under and eight under respectively.
"I wasn't really expecting that after two weeks without touching the Nike - VR Pro Blade Irons," said Aiken after his round. "It was a great morning this morning - early start, and the scoring conditions were good.
"It was out there for the taking and luckily I hit some really good shots and made putts.
"I really enjoyed the round today; this is not the longest course, but it bites if you go skew. Anything off the line on this course is pretty much a reload off the tee, which makes it a thinking man's course.( Nike - VR Pro Blade Irons)

"There are a lot of risk-and-reward holes - a couple of driveable par fours and tricky par threes - and I think that a lot of new courses lack that challenge."
