AiP Announces New Partnership with Preservation Delaware: First Project Launches in August 2011 at Bellanca Air Service Hangar, New Castle

New Castle, Delaware, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) June 1, 2011 -- Boulder, Colorado and New Castle, Delaware (May 30, 2011) – Adventures in Preservation has joined forces with Preservation Delaware to jump start preservation efforts in the First State. The two non-profit organizations are working together to involve more volunteers in the preservation of Delaware’s historic buildings and their settings. The organizations’ kick-off project, beginning August 7, 2011, focuses on bringing together volunteers to help restore the Bellanca Air Service Hangar in New Castle, Delaware.

The hangar is the last remaining structure associated with the Bellanca Aircraft Corporation, founded in 1927 by Giuseppe Mario Bellanca and Henry B. DuPont. The “modern” structure stands in marked contrast to the colonial buildings usually associated with New Castle, the colonial capital of Delaware. “We are trying to promote preservation across the entire spectrum of our heritage,” explained Terry Graham, Preservation Delaware’s Executive Director.

Called Colonial New Castle By Night – Golden Age Of Aviation By Day, the project hopes to draw volunteers from the entire Eastern Seaboard to New Castle for a week of hands-on restoration. Work will focus on restoring the windows on one or more of the hangar’s large sliding doors. Duffy Hoffman, a third-generation craftsman with more than 25 years’ experience in the preservation trades, will lead the project, teaching and guiding volunteers as they work.
