Alabama Best Burger Contest Ends -

Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) November 29, 2011 -- Mugshots Grill and Bar in Tuscaloosa finished third in the first ever Alabama’s Best Burger contest sponsored by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, according to Erin Beasley, the association’s Director of Consumer Marketing.

“Judges called the contest a very tight race and said they were amazed at how close the competition between burgers was in the top 5 restaurants in the state,” Beasley said. “Mugshots Grill had a very good showing.”

Callaghan’s Irish Pub in Mobile, a longstanding institution, was declared the winner. Rattlesnake Saloon in Tuscumbia was second with Mugshots of Tuscaloosa finishing a close third.

The contest began in July with consumer online voting through the Cattlemen’s Association’s website, Beasley said. Over 800 total votes were received in three months. The top five favorite burgers with the most votes were compiled from here, Beasley said.

A team of three judges then went anonymously to the five restaurants to personally judge the burgers, Beasley said.

“Burgers were judged, the majority, on taste, of course,” Beasley said. “Appearance was next and proper cooking, with all of the burgers getting perfect scores on that part.”

The Stockyard Grill and Hamburger King, both of Montgomery, completed the top five finalists.

“I would encourage everyone to try all five of the restaurants in their travels around the state because the hamburgers were delicious,” said one of the contest judges.

Beasley could not say if the contest will be an annual one, however, she did say there is talk of having a Best Steak in Alabama contest next year.

Mugshots Grill and Bar, with a second location in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, remains the Best Burger in the State of Mississippi since 2007 with 5 locations throughout the state.
