Alain Germain’s ‘Art & Fashion’ Exhibition at Esmod Fashion Store in Wafi mall generates major interest

Esmod Dubai, the only French institute fully dedicated to fashion in the region, has announced that the unique ‘Art & Fashion’ exhibition of renowned French fashion designer Alain Germain that was held yesterday (February 03, 2012), at the Esmod Fashion Store in Dubai’s Wafi mall generated major interest among fashion enthusiasts in the emirate.

Mr. Germain was in Dubai to conduct a week-long workshop on art-inspired costume design for the students of Esmod. The exhibition at Wafi was a culmination of the workshop, featuring the creations of the students who were required to create dresses inspired by famous 20th century artists. They were required to use any type of fabrics in their design, but were given the challenge of making their creations in less than 6 days with an Haute Couture spirit in mind.

Our students have learnt the finer points of fashion designing from Alain Germain, who has encouraged them to broaden their perspective, “think outside the box” and come up with unique designs in a very short period of time “.

Alain Germain is known for his distinctive costume designs that are inspired by simple objects, household articles and paintings, which is a novel design concept for fashion students in the region. Germain, whose collection of stage costumes is registered with the performing arts fund of the French Bibliothèque Nationale, has studied music, choreography and architecture, and is also an accomplished music composer, painter and novelist. Esmod Dubai also announced that the second batch of its 3-year program commenced on January 29, 2012. This comprehensive program covers fashion design, pattern making, textile science, and computer assisted design. The First Year focuses on basic techniques and preparation for higher-level design; the Second Year on familiarization with various products and collections and the development of personal creativity; and the Third Year on specialization in haute couture, ready to wear, new couture and the making of personal collections.
