NOIDA, U.P, India, Republic of (Free-Press-Release.com) February 22, 2012 -- In order to admit students for the academic year of 2012-14, the six new IIMs, IIM Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Trichy, Kashipur and Udaipur have started their Common Admission Process from February 15, 2012 and the process will go on till March 14, 2012. To make you better informed about the process, MBAUniverse.com conducted an exclusive Live Expert Chat with Dr. M J Xavier, Director, IIM Ranchi and Head, Common Admission Process of new IIMs on Tuesday, February 21, 2012.

This year onwards, the GD round at the Common Admission Process has been replaced with Written Ability Test. According to Dr. Xavier, the Written Ability Test or Essay Writing will be held in 20 minutes duration where you have to write the essay in maximum 300 words. The topics of the WAT will range from the areas like economy, business, ethics, history, abstract, science etc.

Dr. Xavier answered all the questions on the WAT and PI rounds and advised the candidates for appearing in the WAT and PI rounds and the admission criteria of IIM Ranchi.

Q: Abhijeet: What is the duration of WAT? What is the word limit?

A: The duration of WAT will be 20 minutes and it should contain maximum of 300 words.

Q: Abhijeet: What are the kinds of topics that can appear for WAT?

A: Topics can be from a wide range of areas like economy, business, ethics, history, abstract, science etc.

Q: S.Priyadarshini: Will there be only one topic given for WAT or will there be a choice of topics?

A: Only one topic will be given for WAT.

Q: Aditya: I will be appearing for the WEAT & PI rounds in Bangalore center. What is the guideline from your side which I should follow?

A: You need to present your views in a structured way. You should look at the issue from various angles and be balanced in your approach. You should avoid grammatical mistakes. The views presented by you will matter more than the language.

Q: Nehal: What type of questions can I expect in the PI round? How much significance do the questions like 'Why MBA from Engineering', 'How MBA is important for you' etc. hold for you?

A: ‘Why MBA’ is a specific question. The answer varies from candidate to candidate. Please connect it to your past and how an MBA can help you achieve your future goals. Be practical and logical. One advice would be, do not say you want to become an Entrepreneur if you have not had experience or serious arguments to back it up.

Q: Divya: What is the difference between interactive interview and stress interview? Which one is more preferred for you?

A: My personal preference is an interactive and a relaxed interview. As far as possible we encourage interviewers to follow this approach.

Q: Varun: How much importance do marks of Class 10 and 12 have in final selection process of old and new IIMs? Can marks between 70 per cent and 80 per cent get the final admission?

Your chance of getting admitted depends on your performance in CAT, WAT & PI and your overall profile.

Q: Priyanka: Sir I got 92 percentile in CAT 2011 but I didn’t get call from any of the IIMs. What is the reason?

A: For general category, the cut-off was 97 percentile.

Q: Nehal: How much weightage does IIM Ranchi have for past academic rounds? Apart from CAT scores and performance in CAP round, what are the factors you look for in the students?

Q: Sanjay: I am a working executive at Infosys. Why are all the IIMs conducting separate admission process like new IIMs and old IIMs?

A: Every IIM can have different process as they expect students with different profiles for admission to each one of them. The six new ones have common WAT&PI process. However our admission criteria are different.
