February 4, 2010

Hundreds of YouTube users can't be wrong. Barry Polisar's song, made famous by the film JUNO, comes out in three new versions on "We're Not Kidding: A Tribute to Barry Louis Polisar."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 4, 2010 -- Singer and songwriter Barry Louis Polisar achieved "overnight" success last year after his 30-year-old song "All I Want is You" was featured in the opening credits of the film JUNO. The soundtrack to JUNO sold over a million copies, won a Grammy award, and earned Barry a lifetime achievement award from the Children's Music Web.

It also reunited him with many of the fans who listened to his music as kids. Now, indie musicians from around the world--many who had Barry's albums growing up--have come together on a new two-CD album titled: "We're Not Kidding! A Tribute to Barry Louis Polisar."

During the 1970's, ‘80s and ‘90s, Barry released a dozen recordings of his original songs for children and gave concerts in elementary schools and public libraries. His songs were recorded by everyone from Sesame Street's Big Bird to the indie punk rock band The Radioactive Chicken Heads.

After Barry’s song appeared in JUNO, musicians from around the world began discovering and recording his songs. Aaron Cohen, lead singer of the Chicken Heads, credits Barry’s music as a major influence in his own career and pitched the idea of a tribute album to other artists, ultimately choosing 60 songs for this 2-disc set.

Polisar’s songs aren't played just for kids this time--the songs have been recorded in genres as diverse as hip-hop, folk, jazz and rock.

The new 2-CD album features 60 songs, including three versions of "All I Want is You" - sweetly sung by The Vespers, a female duo from Nashville; in French, by Eric Hartereau, a French folk rock singer based in Carrieres Sous Poissy (Brittany, France); and a bluesy, upbeat take by Noga Vilozny from Santa Cruz.

There is a Klezmer version of Barry's song "Don't Put Your Finger Up Your Nose"--sung entirely in Yiddish--and Barry's song "Potty Training" is performed as an Irish jig. Barry's son, Evan--a musician who released his own CD this year--contributed an irony-infused cover of his father's song "I'd Be Me."

Polisar continues to sing for children and families, visiting schools and libraries all over the US.

The 2-CD set is available from iTunes, Amazon.com and CDbaby.com. Hear free samples on Barry Louis Polisar’s web site: http://www.barrylou.com/tributeAlbum.html.
