All Ireland Student Sevens Rugby Tournament - Gateway Student Village official sponsor

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 15, 2011 -- Also held in DCU last year also it promises to be a great event with about 20 teams competing from different colleges and Universities across Ireland. Last year in total over 1000 spectators attended the event over the course of the day. This year, also adding to the event there will be a women’s tournament.

The tournament began in an official capacity last year although it had been running for years without much attention. DCU won it last year, going on to represent Ireland in the European University Games and coming third.

Sevens Rugby is huge across the globe. Sevens will be an Olympic event next year and with the rugby world cup on in October in New Zealand all this adds up to 7s getting a lot of attention from the media and public.

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) have decided that they are going to now focus on Sevens rugby and its development. In the next month there will be the official launch of the Ireland Sevens team and also the All Ireland Sevens league.

Apart from the rugbythe Sevens Tournament is a fun event for spectators with many marquees and sideline events set-up. The festival atmosphere returns with members of the Leinster squad to be in attendance and loads of music, spot prizes and competitions from the likes from the sponsors:
