Created by trophy whitetail hunter, Jake Gustafson, Cedar Post Rubs are made from cedar posts that have been naturally scented by whitetail deer. Each post has been previously used by whitetail bucks as a scent post rub to deposit their own personal scent as an indicator to other deer that they have been there. These scent post rubs are the main form of communication for deer.

Scent is deposited on CPR by the glands whitetail deer have on their heads. The forehead glands and preorbital glands are the main two glands from which deer scent the rubs. This scent is then infused on each Cedar Post Rub and is what makes the rubs effective in attracting other whitetail deer to the posts.

Because whitetail deer are both curious and social animals, they are drawn to the Cedar Post Rubs as they contain natural deer scent — scent from wild bucks from another area that these deer cannot identify. Because whitetail deer are also territorial, a properly placed mock rub will draw bucks in to explore the scent left by other whitetail deer.

After seeing the effectiveness of natural buck rubs in attracting whitetail deer, Gustafson set out to replicate natural rub properties in a mock buck rub. Using a proprietary process, Gustafson has been able to develop thousands of buck rubs, each one naturally scented by actual whitetail deer.
