After launching his Perfecting Music Conference in 2010 and taking it on the road this year during a multi-city U.S. tour, Gospel music giant Donnie McClurkin will bring the event home to Long Island and merge it with the annual New York Call outdoor crusade for a three-day celebration of music and ministry August 25-27.

Perfecting Music Conference is designed to expand the role of ministry in the music industry and serve as a platform for the advancement of artists, musicians and ministry leaders. It seeks to attract participants interested in pursuing music careers or simply hoping to learn more about the music business. With previous stops in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Perfecting Music Conference is making its New York debut before traveling to Philadelphia, Dallas and Miami.
"I'm extremely excited about bringing the Perfecting Music Conference to New York and combining it with this year’s New York Call,” said McClurkin, the conference’s host and a Long Island native. “These three days will bring together two things that are near and dear to my heart: gospel music and the ministry of Jesus Christ. We are hoping that participants will leave informed, empowered and imbued by the power of Almighty God.”

The Perfecting Music Conference kicks off at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, with a Multicultural Job and Career Fair at Best Western Mill River Manor in Rockville Centre. Job-seekers will receive free resume-building tips, career counseling and advice for conducting a successful interview. Recruiters will be on hand from noon to 3 p.m., offering opportunities for temporary and permanent employment. On Friday, August 26, the conference will move to Perfecting Faith Church, 311 N. Main Street in Freeport, where McClurkin is the senior pastor of a multicultural congregation of more than 3,000 members. Workshops and panel discussions will be conducted by some of the top names in the gospel music industry along with local pastors, leaders and ministers; music executives from Verity Records; radio personality Toya Beasley of KISS FM 98.7 FM, and many others.

Sessions will address the ministry and business sides of music. Ministry sessions will cover topics including Evangelism, the Music/Arts Department, Church Administration, Praise and Worship and Liturgical Dance. Business workshops will discuss Radio, Marketing and Branding, Record Deals, Recording 101 and Developing a Label. Recently added sessions specifically will target young people age 13 to 25. On the last day, Saturday, August 27, all the action moves to Nassau County’s Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, where hundreds are expected to gather for the 8th Annual New York Call. The annual free outdoor crusade began in 2004, led by McClurkin and a coalition of churches, pastors and ministries from different backgrounds, to break down cultural, racial and denominational barriers among Christian believers through continual fellowship and to make an impact spiritually, socially and politically through unity on all levels of society – locally, nationally and globally.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsors Boston Scientific/Close the Gap will partner with the New York Call and Perfecting Music Conference to present a free Multicultural Health and Wellness Fair. Free health screenings will also be offered, as well as games and prizes for the kids.Featured speakers and special musical guests will take to the main stage from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The scheduled lineup includes Maurette Brown Clark, Myron Butler, Da Truth, Ambassador Earnest Pugh, The Brown Boys , and The New York Call Praise and Worship Team.
