September 12, 2011 Insurance news in Atlanta,Georgia, United States of America

Matthews, N.C. is among the 25 cities accross the U.S. taking part in the Motorcyle ONE safety campaign.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 12, 2011 -- There were 236 motorcycle crashes documented in Mecklenburg County, including 138 at intersections in 2009, according to county officials. Of these documented crashes, 230 (97 percent) resulted in injuries and five resulted in a fatality. Allstate is gearing up its Once is Never Enough (ONE) program to help prevent needless crashes from taking place at intersections.

Working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Allstate identified intersections with multiple motorcycle collisions from recent crash data. To remind traffic to look twice before entering intersections, Allstate is installing yellow diamond-shaped cautionary traffic signs emblazed with the word “LOOK” and a silhouette of a motorcycle. Charlotte is one of 25 cities across the country where Allstate will place the caution signs during 2011.

Signs will be installed Intersection of East John Street and South Trade Street in Matthews, N.C., 28105, on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at noon. They will remain on site until Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011.

“Once is Never Enough” (ONE) was created by Allstate to encourage motorists to look left, right and left again for riders before crossing an intersection – a dangerous traffic setting for riders. In 2008, a survey commissioned by Allstate found 82 percent of motorcyclists are concerned about drivers of cars more than anything else on the road.
