Amazing Algarve Smokehouse moves to a new restaurant location
The best Smokehouse on the Algarve has changed its name and location to The Smokehouse - based in the only restaurant of the village in Ladeira do Vau at As Aves restaurant.

The Smokehouse (at As Aves Restaurant) is run by John Ketley and his team. They are based in Ladeira do Vau, on the outskirts of Portimao and produce the best quality smoked food you will ever have tasted, in the Algarve. They use traditional Scottish Methods, using organic Salt from Tavira and Sawdust from old Port barrels sent down from Porto.
John has been smoking fish and other products down here for just over 3 years and only as recent as late last year, moved into a restaurant, re-building his smokehouses at the back of the restaurant.
John's main product is Smoked Salmon , but fast catching up is his Smoked Haddock followed by Smoked Chicken Breast . JK's Smoked Nuts (Almonds) are talked about all over the Algarve as being very moreish and as we are told to eat 25 grms of Almonds per day, then they are a healthy option too!
One of his very popular summer products, is his Hot-smoked Honey Roasted Salmon Fillet , which goes perfect with Summer Salads - simple but delicious - once you start eating it - you just can't stop!
He has smoked many items to order – Smoked Quails Breast and Smoked Quails Eggs were a recent success. His Motto is that he will smoke anything but cigarettes.
He not only supplies his own restaurant, but a number of quality restaurants here in the Algarve also take John's Smoked Produce - namely No Patio in Lagos, Bistro des Z’Artes in Almancil Bar Bacchus in Porches, Porches Velha and Monty’s in Vale de Lobo.
However, he also supplies to private caterers as his product far surpasses any other smoked Product you can get here in the Algarve. His attention to the quality of his product is second to none – he is extremely passionate about what he does, how he does it and the high quality of the end product and his prices are right too!
Additionally, he supplies people who are partying at home, either on holiday or residents, with platters to take home - whether it be for a Starter before their summer Barbecue or Sides of John's delicious, sliced Smoked Salmon.
His restaurant has recently been awarded a Certificate of Excellence on Trip Advisor and is currently holding onto the number 1 spot of restaurants in Portimao.
His new summer Tapas Style Menu is a success, where people can go along and try many different dishes (some not smoked!) - enjoy a bottle of chilled Portuguese Wine - in true Summer fashion!! their opening hours are Tuesday - Saturday 12 noon - 9pm, they are closed on Mondays and currenly closed on Sundays throughout the Summer. However, they will recommence their Sunday menu on Sunday 4th September
