America (and Seattle!) Scores for Children A Night to Unite Celebrates 7th Annual Auction

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 7, 2010 -- (Seattle, WA) America SCORES Seattle, an incredibly unique program that uses the world’s most popular sport – soccer - to inspire literacy in elementary school children, held their annual auction on Friday night, June 11, 2010 at Qwest Field. The event, “A World Cup Night to Unite,” featured a wonderful dinner, two silent auctions and a high-energy live auction.

The live auction featured an array of unique items, including private soccer training with Sounder FC players Taylor Graham and Roger Levesque, a personally signed guitar from Bruce Springsteen, a romantic week in Tuscany, and an opportunity to watch a World Cup game with three Sounders FC players. There was also a trip for two to the MLS Cup in Toronto and a trip for 2 to Superbowl XLV in Dallas that went to lucky bidders.

NBA legend Bill Russell was a surprise guest at this year’s event. He donated a collector’s edition Wheaties Box, commemorating his all-star career, plus 2 copies of his book Red and Me: My Coach, My Lifelong Friend, which he signed following the auction.

Randy Omel, America SCORES Seattle board president, was grateful for this year’s corporate sponsors, including Seattle Sounders FC, K&H Printing, Ruffneck Scarves, and Small Lot Co-op. “We are deeply grateful to this year’s sponsors who are such ardent supporters of the programs we provide for kids.” Said Omel.

Carole Kelley, executive director of America SCORES Seattle, added, “Our goal is for children to experience and improve their self-worth by learning how to develop the expectation of living a successful life. The success of tonight’s event will help us continue providing opportunities to combine writing, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.”
