FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Denver, Colorado, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 25, 2012 -- Outskirts Press, Inc. has published Charley Horse: AMERICA’S DAY-BY-DAY TOUR OF DUTY ‘VIETNAM WAR' CORRESPONDENCES by Richard Macauley. The author's most recent book to date is an 8.25 x 11 paperback in the historical essays category and is available worldwide on book retailer websites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Charley Horse is also available in a 8.5 x 11 casebound edition. The webpage at www.outskirtspress.com/charleyhorse was launched simultaneously with the book's publication.

Charley Horse (a charley horse is a startling, reoccurring pain) is a collection of daily war correspondence columns on the Vietnam War. It’s arranged into fifty-two chapters, one for each week of the standard hitch or tour of duty. (Note the “short calendar” provided to keep track of one’s progress).

In this perspective, Mr. Macauley describes the Vietnam War from July 29, 1970 through July 27, 1971 through Warren McCoy’s eyes more as a contiguous process than as a series of random happenings. This process takes the reader through the experience of being a “new guy” through the growth into an “old guy.” Daily headlines keep the reader on the time line — reminding the reader where he or she was at that time.

The collision of American racial tensions, desegregation, anti-war protests, the Pill, free love, rock ‘n roll, rampant drug experimentation, and bad politics formed The Perfect Storm that shook America’s core so badly that Nam was just one of the four-letter-words on the snarling lips of the once-silent majority.

Non-veteran readers will finally understand why their country, friends and family members came back forever changed. Veterans will universally relate to the bizarre daily stimuli that could only happen when war meets politics, Oriental culture, America’s Bests’ naïveté, and Military Intelligence – all forming the inexplicable Southeast Asian War Games.

722 pages in length, Charley Horse: AMERICA’S DAY-BY-DAY TOUR OF DUTY‘VIETNAM WAR' CORRESPONDENCES is being aggressively promoted to appropriate markets with a focus on the historical essays category. With U.S. wholesale distribution through Ingram and Baker & Taylor, and pervasive online availability through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and elsewhere, Charley Horse meets consumer demand through both retail and library markets with a suggested retail price of $48.95 and $58.95 for the paperback and casebound editions, respectively.

Additionally, Charley Horse can be ordered by retailers or wholesalers for the maximum trade discount price set by the author in quantities of ten or more from the Outskirts Press Direct bookstore at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore.

About the author:

Charley Horse is Chief Warrant Officer Macauley’s perspective of what he calls “The Southeast Asian War Games.” This perspective, of course, is through the eyes of an Army Air Cav helicopter pilot, college Journalism graduate, TV reporter/cameraman, Las Vegas Nevadan, draftee, newspaper reporter, Quang Tri/DMZ resident, and Charlie Horse Bagger. These are all personal descriptions or titles, but Charley Horse describes the many ironic and unusual experiences that helped shape the author -- pulling him inexorably in directions he never intended going.

The author returned to Las Vegas where he worked as a reporter, technical writer, creative writer, photographer, and promotional director for several Fortune 500 companies. Concurrently, he developed an avocation as a nonprofit funding developer -- founding the Ways-And-Means Opportunities (WAMO) Workshops, authoring the WAMO Workbook and training over a thousand nonprofit organizations in thirty-seven years. He now has settled down in Reno with his wife, Mary, and sheepdog, Pudding, where he is a veterans’ advocate and is finishing three new books.
