American Bar Association Calls in ‘Outside-the-Box’ Legal Expert to Whip Small and Solo Firms into Shape at National Legal Conference

October 26, 2009

With more lawyers than ever facing layoffs and bankruptcy, the ABA has called in Alexis Martin Neely, an “outside-the-box” legal expert and business strategist to train lawyers on running a business.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 26, 2009 -- Los Angeles, CA- With layoffs and bankruptcies at an all-time high for the legal industry, leading organizations such as the American Bar Association are finally stepping up to equip lawyers in an area they lack the most—sheer business savvy.

For this reason, the ABA called in ‘outside-the-box’ legal expert and business strategist, Alexis Martin Neely, to walk lawyers through the necessary steps of transforming their struggling firms into a profitable business at the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division's National Solo and Small Firm Conference, October 16th and 17th in Los Angeles.

“I’m thrilled the American Bar Association is finally seeing that small and solo law firm lawyers are operating under a broken business model that is not good for them or their clients,” says Alexis Martin Neely. “Lawyers don’t receive training on how to run a profitable business during law school and many became lawyers because they hoped to avoid business—which is why a lot of brilliant lawyers are struggling financially right now. As I teach lawyers how to shift their mindset from being a legal technician to an entrepreneur, things can, and do change very quickly for their firms,” she explains.

According to Martin Neely, the majority of lawyers running small or solo law firms today are burned-out, frustrated and struggling financially because they don’t have systems or procedures in place to meet the needs of their clients, nor accommodate their own personal lifestyles.

Instead, attorneys are struggling to re-invent the wheel each and every month as they waste money on marketing that doesn’t work and failed billing models that only alienate clients further and penalize them for keeping in touch.

“The key to having a successful business of any type, including a law firm, is implementing systems that automate many of the day to day operations of the firm, exceed the expectations of clients without nickel and diming them and bring in residual income so the business can grow—not reach a plateau every time a solo attorney reaches their physical capacity,” explains Neely. “Without such systems, lawyers will always find themselves burnt out and struggling financially in an otherwise lucrative industry,” she warns.
