"American Idol" Win Doesn't Guarantee Success

San Francisco, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 10, 2011 -- It seems like just yesterday that the Chicago cutie, Lee DeWyze, walked away with the season 9 coveted prize. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell where an "American Idol" win will lead. While many agree that Lee DeWyze certainly deserved to win last season, we haven't heard much out of him.

Unlike Carrie Underwood who shot out of the gate faster than greased lightning and went on to become country music's megastar - to say the very least. It's really rather unfortunate too. So many of them bring legitimate talent to the table, yet, there are no commercial success guarantees.

Case and point: Taylor Hicks. Remember him? Exactly. Not many do. But, I do remember the fever- pitched buzz around the gray-haired, blue-eyed-soul winner of season 5. I fell hard for Taylor Hicks. Though, sometimes, with his spastic, Joe Cocker-esque and quirky, all-over-the-map dancing, it was hard to know if I should have laughed or been in awe. But, at the end of the day, the boy could sing and America rewarded him with an "American Idol" win.

But, that was about it for Taylor Hicks. There were rumblings that he fought with his record label execs over the type of music he wanted to put on his first CD. (Though he probably should have consulted with Kelly Clarkson on that one. That never turns out well.) Then - poof - just like that, he was gone.

In fact, the only other waves Taylor Hicks made after that were in Hawaii with some supposed "mystery girl-friend" and a brief and uneventful run on Broadway in 2008.

Then there is Fantasia Barrino. Enough said.
