AMVETS Career Center Honors Veteran Friendly Employers
CLEVELAND, Ohio – During its annual Employer of the Year awards luncheon held Friday, November 18tt, the Ohio Veterans Employment & Training Council took time to honor three employers and one veterans employment representative for their efforts to hire vets and help vets find employment.
AMVETS Career Center (ACC) selected the three Employer of the Year recipients, who received awards in the small, mid-size and large business categories, respectively. ACC Director, Len Proper, presented the awards.
“When men and women volunteer to serve our nation in the armed forces, the sacrifices they face often are greater than just those required by their military service. Among other things, they also must face career sacrifices at home as they see opportunities for training, promotions and career growth lost or delayed. AMVETS is grateful for employers who are grateful for our veterans,” said Proper.
Ashley Furniture of Mansfield was recognized as the Small Business Employer of the Year, with 40% of their new hires over the past year being veterans. GT Technologies, a transportation and power manufacturing company out of Defiance, received the Mid-Size Business Employer of the Year award, employing over 25 veterans in key leadership and engineering positions. And CareSource, a nonprofit public sector managed care company based in Dayton was recognized as the Large Business Employer of the Year.
Proper also presented the award for Outstanding Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist of the Year. Recipient Nick Hill of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) accepted the accolade.
Ohio’s veterans organizations have been sponsoring veterans employment awards for more than 20 years.
