An Evening with Rabbi Michael Lerner
--Healing the Middle East: Why Americans Should Be BOTH Pro-Israel and Pro-Palestine--
Nyack, NY--January 20, 2012—The community is invited to attend an evening with Rabbi Michael Lerner, best-selling author of The Left Hand of God and editor of Tikkun magazine for a discussion, Healing the Middle East: Why Americans Should Be BOTH Pro-Israel and Pro-Palestine on Sunday, March 18 at 7:30 pm at Congregation Sons of Israel, 300 N. Broadway, Upper Nyack. The stimulating evening will include a discussion, question and answer session and book signing for his newest book, Embracing Israel/Palestine.
Rabbi Lerner is making the case for why peace activists must be BOTH pro-Israel and pro-Palestine and that a lasting peace in the Middle East will only emerge if it focuses attention on fostering a spiritual transformation in the consciousness of both Israel and Palestine, and a triumph of the most loving and generous parts of the religious traditions in each community. This dialogue explores how such lasting peace is unlikely unless it reflects a similar transformation in the US, and a move from expecting “homeland security” to come from political, economic or cultural dominance.
Embracing Israel/Palestine is a must-read for those who care about peace in the Middle East. It is provocative, radical, persuasive, and, if given the attention it deserves, could make a major contribution to reconciliation. Please read this book!
—Archbishop Desmond Tutu Lerner's book is coming out of a loving heart and a powerful analytic mind. He offers us a strategy of trust that could heal and repair the mentalities of fear that limit the current perspectives that dominate our politics.
