We got a few minutes with Dr. Naseer Homoud to learn from him what motivates him for philanthropy and what are the issues which he foresees as challenge for mankind.
Question
Dr. Homoud, thank you for time for the interview. First of all I congratulate you on your recent achievement of receiving Most Influential Person of the Year Award in Jordan. How would you like to react it?
Answer
Thank you…. It is a great honor to receive such an award. The award which was conferred to me recently is much welcomed although I believe that it is a call for more sustained action...........I do not view it as recognition of my personal accomplishments but rather an affirmation of the work which we are doing for ultimate benefit of mankind. This award is not simply about my work rather it is to be shared with everyone who strives for an egalitarian society. This award is not simply about my work rather it is to be shared with everyone who strives for an egalitarian society and particularly with my team at IIMSAM.
Question
What really makes you happy when you see positive outcome of your works. I mean; are there some catalysts which motivate you to work for humanity?
Answer:
Well….. As a human being we have certain duties to the civilization at large…..and we cannot just ignore the grave issues which our people are facing…. I dream for bringing marginalized section of the society to the main stream…. And to this end my all energies are diverted to….
I enjoy the moment with all happiness from core of my heart when i see smile on face of even one child; i don’t know why it is, but that smile is really a catalyst for me and it gives me more energy to work for them. The depressing faces of children can’t be simply ignored… how come we prefer hush on these issues…. How can we say that it is not our problem… remember…. We are the part of society and we can’t remain aloof from the related issues.
We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering. I honestly want to help. I don't believe I feel differently from other people. I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning. All of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situation someone would help us….
Questions
Dr. Homoud, we have seen your works particularly in Jordan and Qatar. Before coming to you we were actually collecting the information about your social works. In Jordan, some people with whom we interacted termed you as champion of social work…..apart from this, we noticed that your works are widely appreciated all across Jordan and surprisingly you have fans who are from different age groups… how do you feel on such reactions..
Answer:
(Smiling)… so, you have done your homework before……( continued)…. Well, the love from people is because of their trust on me. it has noting do with my work rather the trust which they have on me is the reasons behind their affection for me. I really thank Almighty God for such appreciation since you cannot manage such blind and true affection rather it has to come from each respective core of the heart…. I have been working in Jordan since I was student. From my college life onwards….. I always felt that I have certain duties which should be discharged with all motivation. I always thought that to born human is a test in itself since there are several challenges in life and one has to face those at each phase of his life….. I just believe that we should have enough courage to work for mankind….and believe me where a will there is is always a way… I think this narrates the whole story… isn’t?
Question:
Tell us more about IIMSAM; its work and your association to it. How do you feel that your association with IIMSAM has changed your vision?
Answer:
The Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) was granted an Observer Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It works for eradication of malnutrition and hunger through spreading knowledge and usage of Spirulina.
IIMSAM believes that promise in the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty by half by the year 2015 can only be redeemed by serious thinking, planning and action. When we look the other side, there are impending challenges for the mankind. The global challenge of climate change has to be kept in mind while formulating policies for countering the menace of global food crisis.
