Android and Blackberry OS Updates Keep StealthGenie Developers on Their Toes

While everyone is busy talking about the new features and user interfaces, application developers have to work hard to make sure that the applications they develop are compatible with the updates that these companies have rolled out.

Craig Elwin, who works for StealthGenie’s research and development division, highlights the importance of understanding a new OS release, as he says, “Getting to know the new OS releases is a very important factor when it comes to developing new features for StealthGenie. We look for what changes an OS update has made which could help us improve our features and sometimes even add new features as new updates normally give mobile phones capabilities that they didn’t have before”.

Even though developers find a lot of opportunities for improvement with the mobile OS updates, the problems they normally face have less to do with the platforms themselves and more to do with the hardware on which they are run. As Martin explains, “While it is pretty simple working with the Blackberry OS updates, Android OS updates are normally harder to work with as the basic code of the OS varies according to the device they are running on”. “Mobile companies like Samsung and Sony Ericsson normally customize the Android OS before they roll it out for their phones, which means that we have to change our application’s code based on which device they are to be run on and not just the OS”.

As both Google and Research in Motion continue to work hard on adding increased functionality and features to their OS updates, the developers at StealthGenie look at it as an opportunity to improve and better integrate their application as to provide the highest quality mobile spy software in the market.
