Awards were handed out by multiple country music stars but the main host was Reba McEntire. Throughout the show there were many performances by big-name singers.
The big winner of the night was Taylor Swift who won Entertainer of the Year. Swift was very happy to receive this award and thought it was extremely special to win since it was voted on by the fans.
Darius Rucker was a big hit when it came to his performance. The rising country star performed a song he co-wrote with a mentally disabled child and had many handicapped kids come onstage and sing with him. This was a real tear-jerker for audience members, who gave Rucker a very nice applause at the end of his presentation. Martina McBride also took the stage at the CMA’s singing her new song “Teenage Daughters.” The song is about what mothers and fathers of teenage daughters have to go through in their teenage years compared to their younger years of life.
Country singers weren’t the only ones in the spotlight that night. Singer Rihanna did a performance with Sugarland making it more of a country mix than pure country music. Steven Tyler Perry was the other non-country singer performing at the CMA’s. Perry preformed a duet with Carrie Underwood. Both of them rocked the show with a very entertaining and fresh style.
The award for Top Male Vocalist was awarded to Brad Paisley who beat out Keith Urban and Blake Shelton. Top Female Vocalist was Miranda Lambert. Aside from winning Top Female Vocalist, Lambert also won three other awards which included Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year, all for her song “The House that Built Me.”
Lady Antebellum won two awards for the night, one for Top Vocal Group of the Year and one for their hit song “Need You Now.” The band Perry also won two awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards. These included that of Top New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year and Top New Solo Artist. Perry also gave a thrilling live performance at the ceremony.
