Animals across the country and globe suffer each day from abuse, neglect and abandonment. They can be helped, if more people take informed and compassionate action. An innovative on-line event is scheduled for May 20-21 to bring about positive change on their behalf.
Animal Support Groups & Other Animal Lovers to Convene in On-Line Conference: National animal nonprofit leaders will present on May 20-21
Welcome visit Our WebSite:
http://www.AnimalAwakenings.org The Animal Awakenings Virtual Conference will feature leaders from major national and international animal support organizations. Participants from anywhere with an Internet connection can take part in any or all sessions of this landmark live event. The May sessions are free-of-charge and space is available on a “first-come, first served” basis.
Three conference sessions are open to the general public. Additional sessions are professional development training programs for staff, Board members and volunteers of organizations that help animals.
“The needs are so vast, and just about everyone can do something to help,” says conference manager Marcia Elder. She adds: “animal cruelty, neglect and abandonment happen far more than most people realize and so many innocent animals suffer in the process.” The economic downturn has made things worse, and emergencies like the recent rash of tornadoes in the US and the tsunami in Japan further add to the needs. According to Elder, “so do disregard, harshness and unkind treatment of animals”.
No special equipment is required to take part in the conference sessions – just a computer and the Internet. Attendees will be able to see presentation materials used by the speakers and to also ask their questions live.
Presenters for the public events in May include:
- Gregory Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society
- Allan Kornberg, Executive Director, Farm Sanctuary
- Adam Roberts, Executive Vice President, Born Free USA
- Hilary Anne Hagar, MNPL, Director, Humane Society of the US, National Volunteer Center
- Tamira Ci Thayne, Founder & CEO, Dogs Deserve Better
Speakers for additional sessions designed for the nonprofit community include Julie Morris, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA, Philip Wilson, US Programs/Member Society Manager, World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and other experts. The conference Moderator, and also a speaker, is Marcia Elder, Executive Director, Future Is Now Foundation.
Petfinder.com, a supporter of the conference, will make remarks about how companion animals in need across the country can be helped through adoptions. Charity Charms will also present a grand prize of a supply of animal charms for use by the winner’s favorite animal nonprofit (use as a fundraiser or gifts to volunteers).
The conference is not about deliberating or debating animal-related issues (animal rights, animal welfare, etc). Instead its purpose is to inform and inspire those who care about animals to be as effective as possible in helping them. Elder comments: “the program will equip people to do more and better for animals in need.” Information presented will address the needs of companion animals (dogs, cats, other “pets”), farm animals and wildlife. Animal lovers will also gain valuable insights relevant to the animals in their personal care.
The virtual conference is part of the Animal Awakenings Initiative sponsored by the Future Is Now Foundation. The Foundation has been an innovator for years in the use of on-line technologies for the support of nonprofit organizations as well as public education. Additional on-line sessions in support of animals will be held later in the year.
