The latest game about to launch is seeking to add an extra dimension to the social gaming concept - by trying to employ the game to attract attention and garner support for the ongoing crisis in Iran[1].

Watch out for Play 4 Iran (http://www.play4iran.com) a debut game sponsored by the website of 'Twitter sibling' (if there is such a thing?) @Pray4Iran (http://pray4iran.org)[2]. Play 4 Iran is a simple 'tag you're it' game where players register to get added to the scoreboard, and then submit names of other Twitter users with the #IranElection hashtag in order to score points.

Brainchild of Twitter pals @greenthumbnails and @lissnup, Play 4 Iran is one of several projects the pair have collaborated on. Says developer @greenthumbnails: "One of the most popular ways of showing support for the Green Movement in Iran is to turn your Twitter profile picture green. To date tens of thousands of Twitter members have chosen a green profile picture. However, no-one actually knows just how many of the millions of Twitter accounts are sporting green avatars. This contest will hopefully help encourage even more people on Twitter to support the Green Movement in Iran by adding green to their profile image, and help get an estimate of how many supporters there are."

Options include adding a green tone to the entire image, adding a green ribbon, candle, or stripe, or choosing from a selection of popular choices.

The contest starts 23:00 Eastern Standard time (EST) Saturday, September 5, 2009 and will end at 23:59 Eastern Standard time (EST) Wednesday, 23 September 2009.
