When asked about his reviewing style and how it's different than others, Noel said "I listen to music from a musician's perspective. While most people throw on an album and crank it up, I dissect each tune. Of course I expect a good song to stir some kind of emotion in me, but I concentrate on things like songwriting and production quality, and musicianship, no matter what genre of music I'm listening too. For example, when critiquing the Foo Fighters last album (Wasting Light), I focused a lot on the album's production because I knew they recorded in Dave Grohl's garage. I asked myself, how was the overall mix? Could I hear every instrument at all times? Could I detect every cymbal? How did the kick drum, snare and toms sound? What did the guitars and bass sound like? What was the quality of the musicianship? And I give my honest opinion about what I think about an album. You can always say something constructive about an artist or an album. Check out my review of Colt Ford's latest release for example. Overall, I think this sets my reviewing style apart from other reviewers who don't really try to be objective, respectful and honest at the same time. I can't count how many times I've read "this album sucks" or "this album is great", whether it be from a respected source or just a fan's post on Facebook. In my opinion, reviews filled with general statements offer little help to those who want some real insight before they buy an album. When I review live performances I take a similar approach. Sure I get into the show, but I also critique things like performance and production quality, including sound quality."

In keeping with KNEWGENeration.com's tradition, Noel rates each album based on what he paid for it and what he thinks it's actually worth. "While ratings like "four out of five stars" and so on, don't really tell you much about the value of an album, our approach is simple; I tell you what we paid for it and let you know what I think it's actually worth. If we paid $8 for an album, I might think it's worth every penny. But if it cost us $12, I might think it's still only worth $8, I might think it's worth $12, or something in between. We also let you know up-front whether we've got an affiliation with the artist. I keep it honest and I'm not going to review an album differently if we get a courtesy copy or I know someone in the band. What I hear is what you get."
