San Antonio -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Oct 10, 2011 -- Anti bullying speaker Fabian Ramirez was able to speak to students at Hector Garcia Middle School on Friday, October 7, 2011. The NEISD middle school invited Fabian to raise awareness on school bullying and to motivate students to focus on making positive choices.
At the end of each bullying program, Fabian signed the school's pledge to make the campus a bully-free zone. When students arrive to school on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, they too will have the opportunity to sign the anti-bullying pledge.
During the school assemblies Fabian trained students how to handle bullies and turn them into friends. The biggest draw to his program is that he helps implement the Golden Rule. He reenacts bullying behavior that is typical in schools and teaches how to use the Golden Rule to diffuse the bullying.
Fabian’s speech is titled: Bullied to Prom King. He is also known to teach Educators how love is greater than hate and how we need to get back to the basics of teaching children how to show love and kindness to others in the midst of adversity.
In 2005, Texas passed a law allowing students who are being bullied to be able to transfer schools or districts. School districts are required to address the problem in the discipline management plan and they must use language that prohibits bullying in their code of conduct.
Although Fabian has learned about the laws in place for bullying, he believes that Educators can help children solve their own social problems by training them how to react to bullies.
School bullying continues to be a problem across America. The term “Bullycide” is being used when a victim kills themselves due to constant bullying from other people.
“Bullying messes with your psyche,” says Fabian Ramirez who shares that over seventy percent of school shooters had been victims of bullying.
“Find a buddy and stick together,” says Ramirez as to how to avoid becoming a victim. Bullies are less likely to pick on more than one student at a time. The military uses the buddy system and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for school aged children.
As a youth speaker Fabian shares his personal experiences with students using humor and storytelling to get the important message across. “I didn’t feel safe at my middle school,” Fabian tells students during assemblies. He tells students to report bullying the minute their health and safety are threatened. Schools need to be a safe place where students can attend without living in fear so that learning can occur.
