“Windtalker’s” blending of flute with the lush sounds of piano, cello, guitar and Native percussion, weaves a musical tapestry that creates a warm ambience perfectly suited for this festival. For ten years, “Windtalker” has been bringing his special brand of music to festivals, coffee houses, wineries, schools, churches, private parties and other intimate venues. He was also the guest performer for a moonlight tour held by the National Park Service at New Mexico’s Pueblo Bonito ruins at Chaco Canyon National Historical Park. His graceful and winding melodies communicate his long-held passion for Native cultures and his love of nature, a love solidified during his own 2006 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and travels throughout the U.S. He now brings his beautiful music to The Appalachian Trail Museum Festival.
“Windtalker” will be playing pieces from his current CD, “Native SoundScapes,” as well as many new arrangements that will appear on his upcoming CD. He and his wife will also have a vendor booth at the festival where they will have available, not only “Windtalker’s” CDs, but also two books they authored about their A.T. thru-hike, a DVD of his wife’s beautiful nature photos from the trail, and matted nature photos from the A.T. and other locations to which they have traveled.
This landmark festival will celebrate the trail and the museum, as well as pay tribute to those who have hiked the trail from end to end or diligently work to maintain the United Sate’s most famous National Scenic Trail. The Appalachian Trail Museum Society serves the Appalachian Trail community by telling the stories of the founding, construction, preservation, maintenance, protection, and enjoyment of the Trail since its creation. The Museum will collect, preserve, and interpret materials relevant to these subjects in an effort to portray not only the history of the Trail, but also the essence of the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual human experience of the Appalachian environment and the culture of hiking.
Along with outstanding music, the Appalachian Trail Museum Festival will include guest speakers, such as Gene Espy, the second person to thru-hike the trail, as well as numerous hikes, vendors, contests and lots of activities for the kids. The festivities run from 9:00am until 4:00pm on Saturday and from 11:00am until 2:00pm on Sunday, June 19th.
The Appalachian Trail Museum Festival will be held near the museum, on the picnic grounds at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, 1120 Pine Grove Road, Gardners, PA. For more information, go to http://www.atmuseum.org
