A recent study shows that a staggering 64% of men did not make plans ahead of time for Valentine’s Day last year, AKA they fell short.

“For me, Valentine’s Day isn’t about getting a present,” said Holly McGregor, Student, Oil Sands Royalities at Canadian Natural Resources Limited, “I just like to feel special. Of course, flowers are always nice.” She’s right; according to 4-traders.com, eight out of 10 women prefer cards and flowers to expensive presents on Valentine’s Day. "There are a lot of ways to make your special someone feel important on Valentine's Day like surprising them with a nice bottle of champagne or their favourite bottle of wine," suggests Sarah Mehus, Assistant Manager of J.Webb Wine Merchants.

The way we see it, there are three things that you can do to make sure you don’t drop the ball this Valentine’s Day.

Flowers. Women love something pretty. A bouquet of roses is a great way to show her that you were thinking of her. Red stimulates a faster heartbeat, and is also the color of love so this is a great way to brighten her day. If you’re unsure of her favourite flower, you can’t go wrong with roses. Show up on her doorstep with these in hand (or leave them on her bedside table) and you’ll be off to a great start.
