FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 12, 2009 --
RDS Skate Supply in conjunction with Verve Hair Lounge put on a block party and skateboard competition. At the block party 6 very different artists were given a 3' x 4' Canvas and some spray paint. Watching the artists paint that day was amazing as they all used the medium in very different ways. The results are as diverse as the artists themselves. This collection, which is currently on display at Verve Hair Lounge/Gallery, will be put up for auction on eBay starting on August 24th, and ending on September 2nd. All proceeds from the sale will go to The Boys and Girls Club North Vancouver.
The Artists:
Jayleen Weaver: Jayleen's art background is in classic animation. Her experience spans several small comic publications and several animation courses through Vancouver Film School and Vanarts. Her piece titled "OCEAN" is a beautiful piece with layers of paint that spans the depth of the ocean through to the top of the heavens.
Marina Mikulic: Marina's background is as a fashion designer and watercolour artist. Marina has owned her own fashion line, paints regularly and also spends time as a singer. Marina's piece titled "LEIGH" is an urban portrait using bold colours.
Heather Briggs: Heather is a Graphic Artist. She has worked in the fashion arena for most of her career. "DIGITAL LACE" is "a graphic exploration of spray paint as a painting medium. The goal was to achieve a textured and feminine application of a traditionally very strong and linear style.
Dave McGhee: Dave is a mixed media artist who uses anything from markers and charcoal through to automotive paint to explore his creativity. "GREEN DOG, BLUE CITY" is both whimsical and urban with bold use of unexpected colours.
Kalli Niedoba: Kalli has been living in Vancouver for the past two years studying media arts and painting at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Kalli's painting "UNTITLED" is a technical abstract which has an interesting contradiction to the medium of spray paint.
Silas Borsos: Silas' grew up surrounded by artists. Every Borsos relative is an artist, tracing back to one of the first photographers in Hungary. His painting titled "BAND PRACTICE" (acrylic on canvas) is a colourful use of child-like imagery, a unique piece.
