Artisan Tea Purveyor Offers Free Tea Tastings for Foodservice Professionals
Artisan tea retailer and wholesaler Teance is launching a new tea-tasting program for foodservice professionals, including complimentary tea flights and comprehensive staff training.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 1, 2010 --
In response to rising foodservice industry interest in tea programs that are on par with fine wine programs, artisan tea retailer and wholesaler Teance is launching a new tea-tasting program for foodservice professionals, including complimentary tea flights and comprehensive staff training.
Teance’s tea bar was designed to facilitate tea flights and tea education. Its distinctive layout allows customers to view the brewing of each tea while interacting with a trained tea educator. During flights, tea educators present well-researched information and prepare each tea according to its unique brewing requirements. Since 2006, Teance has offered tea flights at $18 and up for three teas or $30 and up for five teas. Free flights for foodservice professionals expand upon this already successful program.
Teance’s founder, Winnie Yu, says the complimentary tea flights are geared toward educating chefs who have little exposure to the world of true artisan teas. She notes that many restaurants, coffee shops and resorts want to improve their tea programs, but lack the resources required to source quality teas and train staff members. All too often, the result is a mass-market tea program that does not meet the quality standards of the establishment or its clientele. Yu’s mission is to provide the quality teas, solid tea education and on-site training needed for fine tea programs. She added, “Wine is very concerned about terroir, varietals, how it is produced, who produced it, and how it is stored and aged. Tea is the same, but it also requires skill in preparation. There’s no other place chefs and consumers can get the level of tea education we provide at Teance.”
Beginning December 2010, foodservice professionals can attend a free 30- to 60-minute tasting of three to five of Teance’s 65 premium teas. Suggested tastings include terroir-based flights, comparative flights featuring one of each tea type (white, green, oolong, black and pu-erh) and flights focused on a specific tea type.
Through January 2011, reservations are required. After January 2011, groups of up to three or fewer can drop in anytime during store hours, but reservations will be required for groups of four to 20. Call to make a reservation. Participants must present a business card indicating a foodservice position at a restaurant, spa, café, hotel or similar business.
