Contemporary impressionist painter Bruce Wood is a new Artist Member of the Wellesley Society of Artists in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Artist Members are admitted to the Society after their work is reviewed and approved by a panel of senior members.
The jury panel also selected his acrylic painting “Heading In” for inclusion in the Society’s exhibition at the Wellesley Free Library Nov. 4-28, 2010.
The exhibition was judged by Heather Roy, who awarded “Heading In” and Honorable Mention.
In the exhibition notes, Ms. Roy said "The various techniques in brushwork (a thickly applied gesso under painting, dry brush, lush dabs) along with the high-key palette give this painting dynamic energy. the Impressionist manner also lends itself exceptionally well to the timeless visual love for sailing and pleasant harbors. The candlelight sail's shimmering reflection on the water works to unify the distant treetops' glowing halo."
Bruce Wood is a Boston native who moved to Chicago in the 1970’s to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he received a Master of Fine Arts Degree. He stayed in the Midwest, opening the former Fenway Galleries in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. He is widely known for his paintings of Lake Michigan, which are in collections across the world.
He recently moved back to Massachusetts and is now painting views of New England villages and harbors. Selections of this new work will be included in the Cape Cod Art Association’s forthcoming exhibitions.
The Wellesley Society of Artists (WSA) is a community of artists founded in 1933 for the purpose of encouraging and supporting local artists and for promoting fine arts in Wellesley. Members come from all over the Boston Metro area and beyond.
