(Free-Press-Release.com) May 8, 2011 -- Paignton company is going to a new consortium that won a £ 1.8million of European funding for research and develop a real-time tool for the detection of asbestos, which is expected to save thousands of lives.

The project may also provide a factory for £ 7 million and hundreds of jobs in the Bay, although there is still no decision.

"We have not decided anything. The underlying objective is that it makes sense to look at here, but we are quite open and flexible."

"Through the development of this instrument we aim to achieve a significant step change in the way the world with the dangers of asbestos, with the ultimate goal of saving lives."

Consortium warning include the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Engineering to coordinate the development project and the University of Hertfordshire Business Design and Product Development and University of Valencia in Spain.

Lord Archer, the chairman of Torbay Business Forum, said that winning funding from the European Commission is "integral" to the project.
