“We wanted to update our look, show off our product and our talents a little better,” said Gaffney. “We've had the prototypical 'The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes' syndrome, and we felt it was time to break out of that mold.”
“Plus – it's a hell of a lot of fun.” Gaffney joked.
The site features a newly refreshed portfolio section, links to some of the other stuff that Gaffney and his cohorts are up to.

“Yes, we design a lot of websites and do a tremendous amount of print design for Asheville clients and clients nationally, but we do have a few hobbies and other things that we do. Weird tshirts, photography, fashion design, illustration and copy writing are really the things that can be the most fun in what we do. So – we wanted to showcase a little more of all that on our new site.”
The site features an old school design theme. Letraset board, coffee spatters, masking tape and cover paper for layouts give it a decidedly retro ad agency feel. The artwork, originals by Gaffney, have a subtle tongue in cheek feel, as does the copy.
“We wanted to have fun and let folks see our lighter side. But, really – we're dead serious when it comes to the work. We hope that levity with a serious edge comes through on our new website.”

Get ready, Asheville – a new site and a new outlook for Independent Studios means only one thing, according to James Gaffney: “It'll be fun. Weird, maybe – but fun.”
