Singapore & Tokyo, 27 February 2012 – Riding on the success of its preview showcase last year, Oishii Japan is gearing for its maiden event from 1 to 3 November 2012 at Suntec Singapore.
The exhibition, expected to gross 4,000 square metres, will feature an interesting array of products and services offered by some 200 exhibitors, mainly from Japan. The show aims to attract 4,000 trade professionals from the region’s F&B, hospitality and other related sectors.
Following the March 11 earthquake, Ganbarou Nippon: Taste of Japan was launched last year as a prelude to Oishii Japan. The smaller scale preview showcase received positive reviews from exhibitors and buyers, with the majority of them expressing strong interest to participate in Oishii Japan 2012.
Similarly, a number of government and industry organisations have committed their support for Oishii Japan. Among them are the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), ASEAN-Japan Centre, Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, Singapore Business Federation, Singapore Food Manufacturers Association, and the Japanese Association in Singapore.
Attracted by the opportunity to gain a foothold in the fast-growing Asian market, several Japanese prefectural organisations are confirming their participation at the show. Over the next two months, sales efforts will gain momentum with a roadshow at key Japanese cities. Hosted by Singapore Tourism Board, presentations will be held in Tokyo (28 February), Nagoya (29 February), Fukuoka (1 March) and Osaka (2 March). The Tokyo presentation is supported by METI.
Said Ms Sylvia Phua, Director of TSO MP International, organiser of the exhibition, “The demand for Japanese food and beverages continues to trend upwards. A year after the earthquake, we observed that the demand for Japanese produce and ingredients are recovering strongly. We are confident that Oishii Japan will be an excellent platform for Japanese enterprises to penetrate the Asian market. As the country recovers from last year’s disaster, the show will help to boost the brand power of quality Japanese food and beverage products.”
Mr Cheong Hai Poh, President of Food & Beverage Managers' Association (Singapore), concurred: “A focused trade show like Oishii Japan will help F&B professionals to have access to a wider choice of suppliers and manufacturers of high quality Japanese ingredients. With a greater selection of food supplies, restaurants and other F&B outlets will be able to create exciting flavours to whet the appetite of discerning Asian consumers.”
Asia, with its progressive affluence and cosmopolitan lifestyle, has become Japan’s largest market for food and beverage products. Statistics show that there is a significant growth in the distribution and consumption of Japanese food products in the region.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Finance, the country’s food exports reached almost US$4.55 billion in 2010, of which US$3.3 billion were bound for Asian countries. Sake, in particular, is fast gaining popularity with the Asian palate. In 2010, export value of sake surged almost 26 per cent to reach nearly US$97 million (Japan External Trade Organisation).
Oishii Japan will showcase an exciting spectrum of Japanese food and drinks, noodles, food ingredients, sauces, as well as kitchen ware and supplies, food machinery, restaurant fit-outs, amusement equipment, and food franchising. The three-day expo is open to trade visitors and buyers on 1 and 2 November. It will be open to the public on 3 November.
A series of show highlights, including food demonstrations, tastings, business seminars and practical workshops, are planned to enhance the experiential learning opportunities at the exhibition.
