Washington D.C, April 21, 2011: The Asian American Government Executives Network (AAGEN) congratulates Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, for his significant contributions to the sustainable democracy and economy of the United States of America.
Secretary Locke was charged with helping to implement President Obama's ambitious agenda to turn around the economy and put people back to work. After two years serving at this post, Secretary Locke delivered an 8.8% unemployment rate, compared to a peak of over 10%, and a recovering economy in a competitive global market. Being the first Chinese-American serving as Secretary of Commerce, Secretary Locke has recently been nominated as the United States Ambassador to China. AAGEN thanks Secretary and Ambassador-designate Locke for his services to our nation.
On Thursday May 5th, Dr. Jeremy Wu, a former AAGEN Chair and current member of the Board of Directors, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies while Secretary Locke will deliver the keynote speech at the Federal Triangle Partnership special program to commemorate 2011 Asia American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, with the national theme: “Leadership, Diversity, Empowerment, and Beyond.”
Dr. Jeremy Wu, who currently serves as the Director, Local Employment Dynamics Program, Census Bureau, has pioneered an innovative, web-based mapping and reporting application, known as OnTheMap, which was recognized with a Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award in 2010.
AAGEN congratulates Secretary Locke and Dr. Wu for their achievements and thanks them for their leadership in breaking the bamboo ceiling for all Asian American and Pacific Islander Federal employees. At its 2011 Leadership Training Conference with the theme: “Learn from the Best: Strategies for Innovative Leadership” AAGEN will further recognize the unique contributions of Secretary Locke and Dr. Wu to this nation.
AAGEN invites all to join the AAGEN Leadership Training Conference and Annual Award Banquet on June 9, at the Doubletree Hotel in Crystal City, 300 Army Navy Drive, Arlington, VA 22202. More details can be found at http://www.aagen.org/
