Boston – For lovers who want to make Valentine's Day a day to remember, acclaimed astrologer Joyce Levine recommends popping the question in early morning hours – ideally around 1:40 a.m. – if you can stay up that late or awaken that early.
At that time Mercury and Neptune conjoin in Pisces. Mercury is the planet ruling communication, Neptune, the planet ruling romance, and Pisces, the sign of romance and idealism. Gifts of candy, flowers, perfume, or anything symbolizing beauty help to set the mood.
“All in all, this is a perfect time to profess your undying love and the wish to ‘live happily ever after’ with your paramour,” Levine says.
Levine is a no-nonsense astrologer whose clients seek advice about career and finances as well as romance. In response to queries from those who wanted to make the most of Valentine’s Day, she came up with several recommendations, observations and gift ideas based on birth signs.
Knowing the astrological influences of the day answers only half the question about how to make the most of the day. Knowing what kind of gift to give that special someone is the other half. “We typically give love the way we want to receive it without considering how our lover may define love . . . and how that may differ from our own definition,” Levine says.
To take out some of the guesswork, Levine offers guidelines for gifts by signs.
Aries (March 21-April 19)—anything that is a “first,” like a newly released CD
Taurus (April 20-May May 20)—pampering or luxury, like an expensive dinner
Gemini (May 21-June 20)—intellectual stimulation, like books
Cancer (June 21-July 22)—think cozy, like a home-prepared candlelight dinner
Leo (July 23-August 22)—attention-getting gifts like diamonds and compliments
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)—give your lover the gift of time: do the chores
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)—movie tickets or matching jewelry that say “us”
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)—exude passion, like a romantic bubble bath for two
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)—satisfy wanderlust with a weekend getaway
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)—exquisite yet practical shawls and wallets
Aquarius (Jan. 21-Feb. 19)—quirky, wearable jewelry that grabs attention
Pisces (Feb. 20-March 20)—one perfect rose on a satin pillow
