Atlanta CPA Firm Moore Colson Promotes Five Firm Professionals

Atlanta, Georgia (July 26, 2010) – Atlanta-based accounting firm, Moore Colson, recently announced the promotions of five firm employees. Adam Bateman – Manager, Tax Services. Ashlie Shepard - Senior Associate, Business Assurance. Jon Powell - Manager, Business Assurance. Billy Boyd - Manager, Business Assurance. Steven Lathem - Senior Manager, Business Assurance. Moore Colson, founded in 1981, is a full-service accounting and consulting firm located in Atlanta, Georgia, providing tax, assurance, real estate, management consulting, estate and financial planning, and IT audit services.

Adam Bateman, CPA, was promoted to a Tax Manager in Moore Colson’s Tax Services Practice. A graduate of Samford University, Adam completed a double major in accounting and finance, and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in May, 2006. In June 2006, Adam was hired as a Tax Associate at Moore Colson, and was promoted to a Tax Senior Associate in 2007. Adam expects to receive his Masters of Taxation from Georgia State University in 2011. Prior to joining Moore Colson, Adam worked for Merrill Lynch, Birmingham, Alabama and Paducah Bank & Trust, Paducah, Kentucky. He is an active member of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a two-time recipient of Moore Colson’s Peak Award.

Ashlie Shepard was promoted to Business Assurance Senior Associate. Ashlie joined Moore Colson as a Business Assurance Associate in 2008, and is a graduate of East Carolina University, with a BS and MS combined degree in Accounting. While attending East Carolina University, Ashlie worked in the Financial Services Department and was responsible for preparing spreadsheets and reconciling various accounts, scholarship accounts, loan accounts and grant accounts. Ashlie was a member of East Carolina’s honor roll for fall, 2002 – 2004 and spring, 2003 – 2006. At Moore Colson, Ashlie works with financial audits and reviews, performs outsourced Sarbanes-Oxley IT and financial compliance audits, and investment assessments for lending institutions.

Billy Boyd, CPA, was promoted to a Manager in the firm’s Business Assurance Practice. Prior to joining Moore Colson in 2005 as an Associate, he performed two summer internships for Smith Barney, where he regularly worked to record and deposit various payments, filed and maintained client records, and distributed stock wire to brokers. In 2006, Billy was promoted to Business Assurance Senior Associate and was awarded Moore Colson’s Peak Award in 2009. Billy received a Masters of Professional Accountancy in 2004 from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration-Accountancy in 2003 from The University of Georgia. Billy is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jon Powell, CPA, was promoted to a Manager in the firm’s Business Assurance Practice. Jon, also a recipient of the firm’s Peak Award, joined Moore Colson in 2006 as an Associate. Jon received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2002 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 2005 from The University of Georgia. Prior to joining Moore Colson, Jon served as an intern with Deloitte and Touche, LLP Atlanta, Georgia, and as the financial officer of a family owned business for two years. As a Manager in the firm’s Business Assurance Practice, Jon performs in-charge responsibilities on the firm’s large IT and financial audit engagements, and also leads Moore Colson’s data analytics initiatives by utilizing tools such as ACL, Monarch, and SQL. In addition to Jon’s CPA designation, Jon is also a Certified Information Technology Professional and Certified Information Systems Auditor. Jon is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

Steven Lathem, CPA, was promoted to a Senior Manager in the firm’s Business Assurance Practice. Steven joined Moore Colson as an Associate in 2003. Steven was promoted to Senior Associate in 2004 and won the firm’s Peak Award in 2005. Steven was promoted again in 2006 to Business Assurance Manager. In the summer of 2006, Steven participated in the firm’s employee exchange program with IGAF Worldwide member firm HURST, Manchester, United Kingdom. As a Senior Manager, Steven leads corporate Sarbanes-Oxley compliance audits, testing projects within the firm’s internal audit outsource practice area, financial audit engagements and consulting projects. Steven holds a Masters of Accountancy and Bachelor of Business Administration-Accountancy from The University of Georgia. Steven is an active member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
