ATMA 2012: A relook at the paper pattern & the relevant topics

There are hardly two days to go for this week’s MBA entrance exam, ATMA 2012. The exam scheduled on Sunday, February 12, 2012 is going to be the first ATMA exam of the year. The next exams will be held in computer based formats in the months of April, June, July and August. This article of MBAUniverse.com will share with you the topics from the sections you can expect and the past year’s highlights.
There are six sections in the test of three hours duration. It gives multiple choice questions with four options. The areas of the test are Quantitative Skills, Verbal Skills and Analytical Reasoning Skills. There are two sections on each of these areas.
The test contains 170 questions spread over six Sections. Each Section is timed separately. The duration of the test is three hours.
Now let us have a look at the past year’s pattern and the topics from which the questions had come.
Quantitative Skills
The total number of questions in this section was 60. The questions were broadly divided into two topics, Arithmetic and Higher Math. In the Arithmetic part, the questions were from the topics of Time & Work, Time & Distance, Clocks, Numbers, Progressions, Geometry & Mensuration, Quadratic Equations, Ratio-Proportion, Average, Alligations, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest and Number Series.
The questions on Higher Math were from Permutation & Combination and Probability. The overall difficulty level was moderate.
Verbal Skills
The section consisted of 50 questions. There were two parts in the section, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Usage. In the Reading Comprehension area, there were four passages. The Verbal Usage area had questions on Synonyms, Fill in the blanks, Para Formation Questions and Select the most appropriate words. This part was tougher than the Reading Comprehension questions, which was pretty easy. The overall difficulty level of the section was easy to moderate.
Analytical Reasoning
This section had 60 questions. It was divided into questions on Analytical Reasoning and Critical Reasoning. This was the most difficult section in the entire paper. The Analytical Reasoning section consisted of questions on the topics such as Puzzles, Data Sufficiency, Input-Output, Operator based questions and Statements & Conclusions.
The topics of the Critical Reasoning questions were on Assumptions & Conclusions, Strong & Weak Arguments, Course of Action and Cause & Effect. There were no questions on deductions. Though the questions were on predictable patterns, yet they were tough nuts to crack.
Test Centers
ATMA 2012 will be held in 32 test cities. These cities are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Noida, Goa, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kohlapur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sangli, Trichy and Kannur.
