Michael E. Kovack, Medina County Auditor, presented awards to the winners of the 10th Annual Weights and Measures Seal Design Contest at an Awards Ceremony held at the Medina County Career Center today. The contest challenges high school students to design the seals used on all scanners, commercial scales, gasoline pumps and other commercial measuring devices used in the county when they pass inspection.
There were two winners in each of the categories, “Inspected and Sealed,” and, “Passed Price Verification.” First Place winners were Kelsey Stitt (Cloverleaf), and Alex Curtis (MCCC). Second Place winners were Crystal Hurley) and Cody Bates (both Wadsworth). Third Places were awarded to Craig Cox and Lauren McGraw (both Cloverleaf). Fourth Place was taken by Megan McQueen and Jonathan Hargreaves (both MCCC) and Fifth Place went to Nick Pannunzio and Josh Trillet (both Wadsworth).
Each student's design will be used by the Weights and Measures Department for the 2010-2011 year and will bear the student's name. A seal will be placed on every commercial measuring device when it passes inspection.
"Every year we are so impressed with the creativity and professionalism of the designs the students produce. It is always very difficult to select the top two, especially with the diversity of seal designs this year! All the entrants should be congratulated for their work. It was outstanding. The students’ teachers, Ms. Molly Jarvis (Cloverleaf), Ms. Sherry Hoover (MCCC), Mr. Larry Kaufman and Ms. Shawn VanDyke(both from Wadsworth) deserve great praise. Their commitment to the education and training of their students is an integral part of the success of those students. "
