While Los Angeles has a food establishment for just about every type of culture and people in the world, there is a surprising lack of any eateries serving common Native American foods. Auntie's has been serving Fry Bread Tacos, also sometimes called "Navajo Tacos" or "Indian Tacos" for over 20 years in Eastern Montana at the Little Big Horn Days Festival in Hardin, MT through the Koyama family.
Kate Koyama and Eric Evans saw an opportunity to spread Native American Culture through food to the Los Angeles area and have begun serving Fry Bread Tacos with their own twist at the Farmers' Market on Broxton and Weyburn Ave in Westwood on Wednesdays from 2-7. According to Koyama, "We're very excited to bring the family recipe to California and look forward to expanding Auntie's soon!"
Auntie's got it's funding in an unusual and very 21st century way through a website called Kickstarter.com that helps to fund artistic and socially conscious projects through crowd sourcing.
