Austin, TX, February 19, 2010 - "We heard a loud explosion, went outside and Saw smoke everywhere," said Booth, whose offices are located in the Jollyville medical Professional Offices at 11851 Jollyville Rd. "Our hearts go out to the victims of the crash", Booth added.
Initial reports and a note apparently left behind by the pilot have led federal investigators to describe the crash as intentional. Investigators now believe the pilot, 53 year old Joseph Stack, targeted the building because it houses the offices of the Internal Revenue Services. In such a case the FBI would be the lead investigating agency rather than the National Transportation Safety Administration. “The NTSB investigates accidents,” said Paul Turk, assistant director of public affairs for the FAA.
Investigators say Stack, a 53 year old software engineer, was apparently furious with the IRS and wrote about his anger in a manifesto published in his Web site.
In the meantime, paramedics have set up a triage center at the scene, though it is unclear how many people are injured. EMS officials said one person was unaccounted for. “We have no idea right now if there are any patients, or how many,” Austin-Travis County EMS Assistant Director James Shamard said.
