FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 9, 2011 --
The second edition of The Perfect Relationship - 10 Steps to Long-Term Relationship Magic, first published in 2003 to critical acclaim, has quickly climbed the iBookstore charts - in the Family and Relationships and Non Fiction categories - and looks like it will stay there for some time. It's now also appearing in the UK charts.
This little book by Sydney personal growth teacher, who was once Managing Editor of WellBeing magazine, has struck a chord with Australian readers. Astra Niedra has international acclaim as a facilitator and teacher of the cutting-edge self-awareness technique Voice Dialogue, a body of work which has exciting implications for how we understand ourselves and each other, and which has heavily influenced many modern approaches to psychotherapy, personal development, organisational management, communication training and even sports coaching and actors training.
The Perfect Relationship distills into a simple, 10-step format for the layperson some of the ideas in Voice Dialogue that people can use to understand and improve their relationships. The creators of Voice Dialogue, notable psychologists Dr Hal Stone and Dr Sidra Stone, recommend The Perfect Relationship as a "A wonderfully simple, clear and practical book on relationship that will be of great help to anyone who reads it. ... Astra has an ability to work with very profound ideas and translate them into language that makes them available to people with little psychological experience."
One of the steps in The Perfect Relationship is to realise that you and your partner both have a number of inner selves and not just the one, singular 'you' who is in relationship with the other person. So, for example, a man might have his regular nice guy self who enjoys romantic dinners and is considerate of his partner's needs, but he might also have a sports-loving self who wants only to sit in front of the television with a few beers; then during business hours, his organising self or responsible self might come to the fore and once he starts working he can't think of anything else, let alone his partner and what her needs might be. While a woman might usually be an interesting and independent person but when she gets close to her partner a more needy and vulnerable 'little girl' emerges. At other times a fun-loving and adventurous self may be primary but then sometimes an overly responsible or controlling self may take over. And after she has her first baby she may become wholly identified with the responsible mother part of her psyche, losing all that she was in the past.
As The Perfect Relationship explains, there are many of these selves in each of us and each has a role to play in our lives and in our relationships. If we can learn to recognise which selves we identify with and use the most in our lives, and which selves we have buried and no longer have access to, then we can not only begin to see what is going on when problems arise in our relationships - some of which are remarkably universal to all relationships, but we can start to have a real choice in how our relationships progress. We can begin to consciously choose to act from those parts of us which would be more appropriate to use for a particular situation, and we can respond to our partner in a way which is appropriate to whichever self they are expressing at any given time.
The Perfect Relationship has been endorsed by Australia's leading personal development seminar presenter Michael Domeyko Rowland: "I recommend this book wholeheartedly and encourage you to apply what Astra Niedra has revealed"; and by the directors of the Australian Institute for Relational Training who made it recommended reading for their trainees. It also received glowing reviews in The Sunday Telegraph, Family Circle magazine and WellBeing magazine.
