Run brings awareness to copyright infringement laws and independent artists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New YORK ,New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 22, 2011 -- Author and copyright infringement expert Gregory L. Hudson will run this Sunday, September 25, 2011, in the 2nd annual Run for Justice event to bring awareness to the unethical yet popular practice of copyright infringement.

Hudson, author of “Why I Sued Eddie Murphy,” is just the man to bring this issue to the fore: for nearly 10 years, Hudson has made several appearances in New York and federal courts on behalf of his own case against actor Eddie Murphy and Universal Studios.

The case in question pertains to the Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence vehicle “Life,” a film about two Black men wrongly convicted and sentenced to life in prison. According to Hudson, the film (including dialogues and scenes) is identical to one of his most popular stage productions, No Harm, No Foul, the story of a young Black man falsely accused of rape and sentenced to life in prison.

As Hudson tells it, “In summer 1996, I hand delivered copies my play, along with a videotaped performance and an invitation for [hip hop artist] Heavy D and a few others to attend my live production of No Harm, No Foul.” Hudson eventually began talks with representatives from Universal, who, he says, made an oral agreement with him.

“The next thing I know, the calls stopped, and a few years later Life is made into a major motion picture.”

The case has made Hudson a household name in regards to copyright infringement laws. Now a consultant and staunch advocate against copyright infringement practices, Hudson also lectures and holds workshops to others protect their property. He began “Run for Justice,” an 18-mile annual event in 2010, with an aim to “shine a spotlight on the devastating effects of copyright infringement (copyright theft) on Independent Artists.”

The run will begin promptly at 4:15 p.m. in front of the Queens Civil Courthouse located at 89-17 Supthin Blvd. The trek will take Hudson through various portions of the city, including the Eastern District Court of New York, and to its finish at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. From there, he will conduct a LIVE call-in interview with "The Artist Lounge Internet Radio (Podcast) Show" to further the issue of copyright infringement.
