EXETER, NH: Walt Disney Pictures will release the latest Tim Burton masterpiece , Alice in
Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp on March 5, 2010. Alice will be reborn twice that day as another dark genius releases a retelling that is simple, wonderful, and majestically morose. STICKFIGURATIVELY SPEAKING is a new series from PublishingWorks, Inc. written and illustrated by Jamison Odone. The first in the series will be ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND.

http://www.publishingworks.com Literary nonsense turns to whimsical imagery with a macabre twist in the pen-and-ink drawings of Jamison Odone. Stick figures have never emoted this much energy as each page brings a certain curiosity to a new light in this deconstruction of Lewis Carroll's classic. Starkly black and white, these stick characters are as much a quandary as their literary, cartoon and theatre counterparts ever were. Omitting much of the melodic verbiage of the original, STICKFIGURATIVELY SPEAKING creates a simple variation with an exquisitly sophisticated twist that's already being compared to Edward Gorey.
"STICKFIGURATIVELY SPEAKING is a way that I take stories that I love and adapt them in a
visually simple way that is truthfully not all that simple," says Odone. "I view each of these books as an individual project in storytelling, design, and picture making. There is really no room for the words to carry the art or vice versa—they have to all work together." The second STICKFIGURATIVELY SPEAKING title, out in September of 2010, will be THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW.
Jamison Odone is best known for his children's book illustrations including HONEY BADGERS and THE BEDTIME TRAIN, but is taking a distinct break from those lush paintings to draw raw stick characters with odd and quirky idioms floating in the air for STICKFIGURATIVELY SPEAKING. The birth of these minimalist drawings came soon after the death of Michael Jackson when Odone used his unique artform to create a stick-figure tribute to "the gloved one" performing "Thriller."
