"In the land of the free 'Ignorance Is The Devil,'" Manrique states on his web site, a direct reference to Jones' repeated assertion that "Islam Is The Devil." Manrique goes on to further state, "In my book those who practice ignorance must be called on it, and while one wing-nut 'reverend' has the right to express his beliefs, so do we."

To mark "Celebrate America & Reject Small-minded, Bigoted Reverend Day," Manrique, a Catholic, has launched a page on his web site (www.johnmanrique.com/RejectBigotReverend.html) where people can post their comments, opinions, and "burn bias while rejecting a small-minded, bigoted reverend."

"It's ridiculous that a one-off whack job like Rev. Jones is provided a national - even global - platform to appear far, far larger than he and his hole-in-the-wall ‘church’ are," Manrique says. "Just as nineteen terrorists do not represent a religion, an isolated quack like Jones and his publicity stunt certainly do not speak for America. That is what this effort seeks to say."

While Sunday, September 12, 2010, is Manrique's official date for "Celebrate America & Reject Small-minded, Bigoted Reverend Day," the web page (www.johnmanrique.com/RejectBigotReverend.html) is now open for visitors and comment. While Manrique has no estimate as to what sort of response his effort may generate, the goal is to bring together enough voices so as to "drown-out the misguided actions of a jackass."
