AUTHOR LAUNCHES VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR IN SUPPORT OF LATEST NOVEL: ISLAND GIRL
If a parent has been unkind to her child, does that forgive her a lifetime of sins just because she’s sick? Does illness somehow grant her instant immunity, a moral get-out-of-jail free card?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 17, 2011 --
Author Lynda Simmons is proud to announce a nation-wide virtual book tour in support of her latest work, Island Girl. This Skype-based initiative connects Lynda with local book clubs, libraries and organizations. It also allows for an intimate and often candid Q&A on the themes of family, illness, loyalty and love.
Set on the Toronto Islands, Island Girl, is the emotionally riveting story of a 55-year-old mother, Ruby Donaldson, fighting to reunite her family as she struggles with the diagnosis of early on-set Alzheimer’s. It is a story of mothers and daughters and doesn’t shy away from examining the complex family dynamics of these strong willed women.
Told from the perspectives of Ruby (mother), Liz (eldest daughter) and Grace (the youngest), Island Girl, invites us into the turmoil of their family while painting a clear picture of how a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s affects their dynamic.
Alzheimer’s Disease
With the first set of Baby Boomers becoming seniors this year, 1 in 8 are being diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s, and the disease is predicted to result in over 10 million new cases. Lynda Simmons is no stranger to the disease, having been forced to face her own familial resentments when her mother-in-law was diagnosed.
