AUSTIN, TX: J.T. Kirk, author of Confessions of a Hiring Manager Rev. 2.0, and 50 Things You Can Do NOW to Help Keep Your Job (Kings Crown Publishing, release date: May 15, 2011) will be speaking at the 2011 Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Annual Conference in San Diego in June. Kirk will address sessions in the “Career Connections” stem of the conference with two presentations, and conduct individual consultations with conference attendees regarding their résumé and cover letter development.
Presentation 1: Using the “Continuous Promotion Approach” (CPA) to Get on the Hiring Manager’s Short List
Prospective job applicants must learn to align with those elements that are important to the hiring manager rather than their own interests in how they promote themselves as solutions providers and problem solvers. This presentation (also a chapter in Confessions of a Hiring Manager Rev. 2.0) explains how the Continuous Promotion Approach, when combined with a Professional Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Portfolio (PSKE™ Portfolio), can be advantageous for job seekers and career changers by keeping their names and qualifications at the forefront of the hiring manager’s attention and on the top of the “short list” over time.
Presentation 2: Maximizing Your Job Search Efficiency and Effectiveness
The success rate for landing a job using online job websites is between 1.5 and 3.6 percent. One study reports that 12.3 percent of recruiting from outside a company is done through online job boards, 20.7 percent directly from company postings, and 25.6 percent through referrals. This presentation will show job seekers how and where they are spending their efforts and which avenues offer the highest return for the job searches. Some employers don’t use social media for hiring yet most people spend way too much time there looking for jobs. Kirk will show how candidates can maximize their job search efficiency by understanding where most hires come from and the truth about social networks as a source for job leads.
J.T. Kirk has held hiring manager positions in a career that spans more than 20 years in the high-technology sector, oil and gas exploration industry, and software development field in technical, marketing, and communications positions. He can be contacted directly at jtkirk@austin.rr.com .
