http://www.godsears.com Jack Nance Breakthrough Performance Winner Michael Worth (Visionfest, 2008) brings his critically acclaimed film "God's Ears" to the inaugural Green Bay Film Festival taking place February 25-27, 2011 at the KI Center located at 333 Main Street . The film is a Wisconsin premiere for the Autism positive feature film. The film follows Noah, "Played beyond masterfully by writer-director Worth" (critic Adam Daniel Mezei), an autistic man who aspires to step into the boxing ring at the gym where he works for the aging pugilist, played by Best Supporting Actor (Las Vegas International Film Festival) and screen legend John Saxon. His aspiration to fight are further fueled when he meets a beautiful young dancer (Margot Farley) who sees something in Noah that no one else does: Hope. The film also stars Tim Thomerson (Uncommon Valor), Mitzi Kapture (Bay Watch), Karen Kim (US SEALS 2) and debuting on screen for the first time, 86 year old Lois Stewart, Worth's grandmother.
Worth is vocal about one of the other contributors to the film, cinematographer Neil Lisk who passed away suddenly last October at 39 years old. "Neil is one of the unseen forces with this film", Worth says. "He threw himself into the delivery of this story with everything he had, and when I had a vision for the look of a scene he never failed in making sure I got it". Worth and Lisk's last film together as director and cinematographer happened to be shot in La Crosse, Wisconsin in the forthcoming World War 2 film, Fort McCoy starring Eric Stoltz as well as 'God's Ears" actress Margot Farley. "Our creative partnership helped shape me as not just a filmmaker but as an actor as well. He will forever be an integral piece of my experience in this business". One of Worth's next projects is another he wrote that he also had intended to do with Lisk. "It is a road trip comedy called 'Apple Seed' that is about reconciling oneself with our past before we can embrace our second chances in life. Though it embraces some of the more comedic elements of the genre, it has a very passionate, emotional and somewhat biographical story at its core. Neil is not here with us to make it, but his mark will still surely be felt", Worth says.
"God's Ears" has been embraced warmly by the autism community as it does not represent the character in a helpless or "disease of the week" way. Worth points out "Noah's condition is actually what makes him touch people and as one connects with him, the 'malady' in a sense no longer exists and what we have is just another human being". The film is completing a very successful festival run this year and Green Bay is one of its last stops along the way.
"God's Ears" screens February 27 at 2:30 pm at the Exhibition Hall.
