(Free-Press-Release.com) January 31, 2010 -- Denver, Colorado, January 31, 2010 - Mile High Denver Auto Repair today released a list of top automobile fuel economy driving tips for maximizing gas mileage and saving money. Driving behavior and practice can significantly affect fuel economy according to US government studies. Selected gas saving tips include:

1) Avoid Aggressive Driving. What’s known as aggressive driving (e.g., speeding, rapid and frequent acceleration and braking) adversely affects gas mileage. Studies indicate that aggressive driving can lower highway gas mileage by as much as one third. Aggressive driving is also considered to be less safe so there’s additional reason to drive sensibly.

2) Remove Excessive Weight. If there’s extra weight in your car then if may be worthwhile to remove it. For example, an additional 100 pounds in a vehicle can reduce fuel economy by up to 2 percent. Tools, sporting equipment, and anything that adds to the vehicle’s weight unnecessarily can be removed to increase fuel efficiency.

3) Minimize Engine Idling. Stationary, idling automobiles get 0 miles per gallon. In general the larger the vehicle the more fuel an idling engine consumes.

4) Cruise Control. In most cases the use of cruise control at highway speeds not only helps maintain a constant speed but often will help save gas too.

5) Use of Higher or Overdrive Gears. Under the proper driving conditions the use of overdrive gears is effective in saving fuel since a car’s engine speed goes down thereby reducing fuel consumption and engine wear.

By observing these basic gas saving tips drivers can achieve more miles per gallon and save significantly on fuel expenses.
