AvidGreen Fine Landscaping in Marin County Receives First Place Achievement Award: an update by Scott Sherman from the recent California Landscape Contractors Association Awards Banquet

San Rafael, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) June 23, 2011 -- “I am honored to be recognized by my peers,” said Scott Sherman of AvidGreen Fine Landscaping upon receiving the First Place Achievement Award from the North Coast Chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association at their recent annual awards banquet.

Sherman’s recognition was in the Design Build Category for a residence in Marin County.

Scott explained that the project work for the Marin County residence included the renovation of a front yard changing it from a large lawn to an eco-friendly perennial Mediterranean garden with plants that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. An additional renovation included turning a backyard into several new vegetable gardens, with espaliered fruit trees, and turning a more intensive fruit development, into smaller areas.

In addition, Sherman highlighted that the project was built using current best practices in green and sustainable construction such as: keeping excavated soil on site; using well adapted, low water use plants; using locally sourced landscape materials such as compost and boulders; and enhancing percolation of rainwater into the soil. All materials used were certified organic.

Finally, Sherman said, “the North Coast Chapter of the CLCA is a great group to be involved with because it is a community of innovative and like-minded landscape designers and contractors. It is important to network with members of this community and to see their work as it provides inspiration for AvidGreen to learn, share, and implement the best practices of the industry.”
