During the growing period it needs lots of bright light, fresh air and high humidity., water sparingly at first, increase watering as the bulb starts to develop.

Daffodils, Hyacinths and Tulips are forced into early bloom for Christmas.
Hyacinths/Dutch Hyacinths - beautiful colours - pink, white, blue and yellow star-shaped florets on a stalk. Decorative and highly scented. Needs full sunshine/bright light and high humidity.

Tulips pointed blade-like leaves with goblet-shaped flowers, in a wide range of colours. Tulips are classified into 15 divisions, those that are suitable for growing indoors belong to division 1 (early-flowering singles) and division 2 (early flowering doubles). Flower from December - April depending on the variety.
Bulbs bring a real sense of Spring indoors. Plant the bulbs out in the garden when the flowers have died.

Claw Cactus - similar to the Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera bridgesii). the claw cactus stem segment is longer and more deeply groved, hence the name Claw Cactus.
In the wild this plant grows by anchoring itself to trunks and branches of trees in trophical forests. Buds from September, blooms from November through to January. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight.

Water well as often as necessary except during the rest period after flowering in the winter.
Once the buds appear do not move the plant, remove each flower as it fades.

Cyclamen - Native in many Mediterranean Islands, grow wild in many parts Turkey and the Greek Islands. They grow and flower in the cooler months, then lie dormant during the summer months. They are one of the most popular indoor plants. The leaves form a rosette with flowers on delicate stems above. Cyclamen flowers covers many shades of red, mixed colours and white. Blooms from September - March. There are also miniature species.

A reduction of daylight hours will allow these plants to flower all year. The plant originial colour of the flowers were scarlet, currently there are colours of yellow, red and orange. Never overwater, allow potting mixture to dry out before watering.

Green Foliage Plants - varied shapes and leaf forms displayed together will highlight each other's special characteristics.

Orchids with thicker stems and succulent leaves can tolerate more sun than orchids with thin soft leaves. Light is extremely important for bud formation, however, they need protection from strong sun rays, they need as much natural light as possible, good ventilation, avoid cold draughts. Water sparingly in winter and moderately in summer.

Aspidistra - (Parlour palm) A plant with large dark green oblong leaves and occasionally small purple flowers. It is very popular although small, probably because it is extremely easy to grow, will tolerate bad light and extremes of temperatures. Growth is slow, rarely grows more than 13ft. In winter water sparingly, allow potting mixture to dry out before watering. In summer water freely.

Poinsettia - (Euphorbia pulcherrima) originally from Mexico, now grows all over the world as a large shrub. Will last at least two to three months at normal room temperature and good lighting. They are often used as the festive table decoration. Water thoroughly, but let compost dry out in between. A plant with green leaves needs short days and long nights for the leaves to change colour.
The milky sap in its stems, leaves and bracts is poisonous.

Queen of the Night - originated from the tropical regions of America, beautiful creamy white strongly scented flowers,
opening after dark. The long trailing stems need support.
