Solar pioneer issues statement as the government loses crucial bid to overturn ruling on its solar panel subsidy cut amid recent job losses, lost consumer confidence and abandoned projects nationwide.

The High Court has thrown out the government’s right to appeal in the ongoing row over cuts to feed-in-tariffs. It was deemed that hurried DECC cuts to FIT payments were unlawful on the grounds that the consultation on the proposed changes to the scheme did not close until December 23. In light of the landmark judgment, Bruce Cross of GB Sol an independent UK manufacturer of PV modules based in South Wales states:
“The government is putting the solar industry in jeopardy because they will not accept they acted illegally. The UK solar industry has created 30,000 jobs which have been ebbing away since the 12th December feed-in tariff cuts. This will continue until there is a definite rate that consumers can use to predict their return on making an investment in green electricity generation. But instead of trying to encourage a growing clean industry, the government seems intent on destroying it. This is a time for the government to accept the decision of two courts and now introduce the cuts (which we in the industry support) in a measured, planned and legal way. The solar industry and supply chain produces more revenue for the treasury in taxes than the cost of the tariff, so this is a win-win for the nation, if only the political infighting between government departments is stopped. The expanding solar industry has brought prices down dramatically over the last year, this should be a cause for celebration not for a cull.”
